Awareness

Global Concern

There are an estimated 130 million people in the world living with hepatitis C and more than 350 million with hepatitis B, a total of almost 500 million. These are serious diseases yet it is widely recognised that awareness of hepatitis B and C is extremely low. The great majority of those infected remain unaware and the public is largely ignorant of the risks.

The Resource Centre is supporting the World Hepatitis Alliance to raise awareness of hepatitis C globally and to promote the new World Hepatitis Day on the 19th May. Governments across the globe have been invited to support 12 Asks (commitments) to help improve a number of aspects for hepatitis B and C within their own country and at global level.
