Pre Test Discussion (Consultation)
When you go for a test you should first be given some form of pre-test discussion or consultation to explain some important things to you such as:
- What the Hepatitis C virus is in terms of your body and your health
- Risk behaviour
- A full explanation of the test you are considering
- The implications of the results - positive or negative
- The 'window period' after coming into contact with the Hepatitis C virus which will influence your test results.
Occasionally, pre-test consultations are not initially offered. We can help if this is the case but first simply try reminding the clinic you are attending that you would like a pre-test consulation. It is very important and should be provided regardless of where you go to ask for a test.
