Hep C Treatment - Can I travel?

Yes you can travel while you are on treatment. However, particularly in the early stages of your treatment, you may be having hospital appointments fairly often to check on your progress.

As treatment progresses you may have more time between appointments which will allow you to travel without missing any.

You will normally get a month's supply of drugs at a time which should allow time for you to go on holiday in between.

The interferon, which forms part of your treatment, should normally be kept in a fridge, but a cool bag will be good enough when actually on a journey. If you are travelling by air, you should carry your drugs with you in hand luggage and ask your physician for a covering letter explaining what you drugs are for. This may be a help when passing through security!

As always, talk things through with the team that is treating you as soon as you know you would like to travel. This will help them to ensure that treatment is uninterupted for the duration of your time away.
