We undertake research and data collections periodically with collaborators in the field to help progress understanding of hepatitis C and the infrastructure to tackle it in the UK.
How to order
Published reports1. Indicators of the Hepatitis C Epidemic and Prevention Initiatives in Scotland (2006), S Wadd, S Hutchinson, N Rowan, K Roy and D Goldberg (PDF available).
The UK Hepatitis C Resource Centre recently published the above report which documents a research study undertaken in collaboration with Health Protection Scotland. The report amalgamates existing and new information to provide a compendium of indicators to illustrate the extent and nature of the challenges posed by the hepatitis C epidemic in each NHS Health Board area. The report highlights regional disparities in the prevalence of HCV, associated risk behaviours and the availability and uptake of interventions aimed at preventing HCV transmission. The report was distributed to health boards to assist their decision making in relation to additional funding being released in 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 as a result of the newly released Hepatitis C Action Plan for Scotland. Hard copies can be ordered from the Resource Centre at a cost of £5 each.
2. Living With More Than Hepatitis C: A Study of Hepatitis C and Discrimination (2004), Maud Blair and Joanna Blair (hardcopy available).
Researches discrimination to individuals infected with hepatitis C in order to inform policy and strategy. Examines the extent, target and impact of such discrimination. Reviews the availability of support for individuals and the responsiveness of local services to their needs. Perpetual discrimination and stigma were observed as a result of infection with hepatitis C infection in addition to discrimination and stigma in terms of injecting drug use as a transmission route. The study identifies that a) hepatitis C infection in itself and b) injecting drug use as a transmission route both lead to gross injustices, insurance, mortgages and employment discrimination. Hard copies can be ordered from the Resource Centre at a cost of £5 each.
